Four years ago, 6/12/2008, Greece was shaken by an event which was heard the world over. On a December night in the counter culture area of Exarchia in Athens, a young boy and his friends exchanged some words with a few local cops. The cops parked their car round the corner, came back, and shot one of the kids dead. That boy was Alexis Grigoropoulos, a young man from one of the more affluent areas of Athens whose mother owned a jewelry shop.
His death lit the fuse for weeks of sustained rioting by youths all over Greece. For much of December Athens resembled a warzone with black clad teenagers and Police lining up to do battle. In the days that followed there were strikes, walkouts, occupations and protests; at night there would be the rioting. So Remember Remember The 6th of December..
